The Cleveland Guardians secured a crucial 3-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Thursday, keeping their playoff hopes alive in a tight American League Central race.
Manager Stephen Vogt praised his team’s execution against one of baseball’s premier pitchers while highlighting the key moments that delivered the win.
Cleveland came out aggressive early but struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities through the first six innings.
The breakthrough came in the seventh when Jose Ramirez connected on a two-run homer that shifted momentum decisively in the Guardians’ favor.
When asked about the team’s approach in securing the victory, Vogt emphasized both their aggressive start and the challenge they faced on the mound.
“I thought it helped. I mean, we came out aggressive, but obviously, you’re facing one of the best pitchers in baseball. And we got traffic in the first two innings and didn’t really get anything going after that. And then when Noel got him and we forced him to get his pitch count up there in the fourth, I thought we’re going to get him out of there after six. But anytime you’re facing him, it’s going to be a tough game. I’m just proud of our just proud of our guys. And goes on Tanner for keeping us in the game,” Vogt told reporters.

The manager couldn’t hide his satisfaction with Cleveland’s performance, particularly crediting Tanner Bibee for another sharp outing that kept the Guardians within striking distance.
Ramirez’s seventh-inning blast provided the decisive blow, energizing the dugout and swinging momentum completely toward Cleveland.
This victory showcases the disciplined hitting and reliable pitching that has kept Cleveland competitive in the AL Central race.
The Guardians now sit just 3.5 games behind Detroit with significant games remaining on their schedule.
However, Vogt understands the challenge ahead remains substantial.
Cleveland faces four games against Minnesota compressed into three days, creating an immediate test of their postseason aspirations.
The manager’s message stays consistent through the stretch run.
