The Cleveland Guardians’ pitchers and catchers report to Goodyear, Arizona for Spring Training today as the team officially begins a quest to win a third consecutive AL Central crown. It has been an incredibly quiet offseason in Cleveland as the front office has yet to spend more than $1.5 million on any free agent contract, but there is plenty of talent in the building ready to emerge and help get this team to the next level.
During Stephen Vogt’s tenure as this team’s manager, the organization has been in great hands and continues to fight every day in a way that makes the fans proud. Ahead of what should be another strong season, he recently outlined what he wants to see from his guys in Spring Training.
Vogt spoke with the media during a Spring Training press conference today and touched on his plan for this season. He stressed the importance of the end goal and remembering that it’s a long season, noting the importance of preparing to play for seven months.
“Players just want to know why. Where, when, why, and what we’re doing, so we try to be an open book. We communicate as much as we can with players to understand that ‘this is the end goal.’ We’re starting at this point in spring, but the goal is to be ramped up and ready to play for seven months. Our workload looks that way. It’s ramping up to be ready for Opening Day,” Vogt said.

This team needs to find a way to generate more offense in 2026 and it will require the improvement of a handful of young prospects such as Chase DeLauter, George Valera, and CJ Kayfus. The bar for them to clear is incredibly low compared to last year, so hopefully they will have a long leash and will catch fire sooner rather than later.
That’s a long way away from now, as this time of year is all about knocking off the rust, answering a few question marks, and preparing for a marathon. Vogt has the right mentality here, and there’s no question that this roster will follow his lead.
