Opening Day isn’t far away as teams across MLB have just begun heading south to kick off Spring Training, including the Cleveland Guardians, who saw their pitchers and catchers report to Goodyear, Arizona today. The Guardians have a lot of pressure on them as they look to win the AL Central for the third year in a row, and everybody can’t want for this team to get to Arizona and get to work.
However, before Opening Day, there is a tournament called the World Baseball Classic that will capture the eyes and hearts of nations around the globe. The WBC begins on March 6th, and many Guardians will be participating, though there is one more big name out of Cleveland who is currently in consideration to replace Corbin Carroll of the Arizona Diamondbacks, who had to bow out recently due to a broken bone in his hand.
MLB Network’s Jon Morosi shared on X that star outfielder Steven Kwan is in the mix to replace Carroll. He shared that USA Baseball officials are still working through their decision and acknowledged that Kwan is on a list with six other strong candidates.
“USA Baseball officials are working through possible injury replacements for Corbin Carroll. Steven Kwan, Tyler Soderstrom, Riley Greene, Roman Anthony, James Wood, Wyatt Langford and Kyle Stowers are under consideration, per source,” Morosi posted on X.

Kwan is among the most accomplished of the players on this list and has a similar profile to Carroll, as he is also a speedy outfielder with a strong glove and good plate discipline. If the officials want someone who will be a seamless fit, Kwan could arguably be the best option among this group.
There is no info on which of these outfielders has the inside track to winning the spot, but it would be an incredible honor for Kwan and a real treat for Guardians fans to see him essentially playing playoff baseball in March. What better way for him to prepare for another All-Star campaign than to go win his country some hardware?
