Cleveland Guardians outfielder Chase DeLauter continued the torrid start to his rookie campaign with three hits, another home run, and three RBIs to help lead his team to a 4-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs in their home opener. The homer tied him for the league lead, and he even made a little history in the process.
It hasn’t been a shocking start since this fan base has been aware of his talent for years, but it’s still eye-opening to see DeLauter regularly hitting home run after home run in such big spots. The moment isn’t too big for him, and manager Stephen Vogt had plenty of praise for his young outfielder after his latest big performance.
Daryl Ruiter of 92.3 The Fan shared a clip from Vogt’s postgame press conference. He had plenty of praise for his young outfielder and spoke about how proud he is of the hot start.
“It’s incredible. Like we talked about back in the postseason, this kid is comfortable. He’s not big-eyed. He’s doing a phenomenal job for us. It’s a really fun start for him this year. Chase can hit. He can hit the ball to all fields,” said Vogt.

Vogt also voiced how impressed he was with DeLauter not being phased by facing a tough lefty. Chicago brought in Hoby Milner to get out of a jam, but with two runners on in the fifth inning, DeLauter tied the game with an RBI single.
He served as the designated hitter after fouling a ball off his foot on Tuesday, which kept him out of the finale of the Los Angeles Dodgers Series. With a couple of days off, DeLauter thankfully avoided serious injury and should have no issues going forward.
If he can stay on the field and keep hitting even close to this pace, the Guardians may have a star on their hands and a potential Rookie of the Year winner. Hopefully his hot bat starts to rub off on some of his teammates as well.
