The Cleveland Guardians hoped that Tanner Bibee would be their ace this season.
With Shane Bieber out for half of the year, he was supposed to take a leap and be the leader in the rotation.
That wasn’t necessarily the case, but his final numbers weren’t as bad as some people made them seem, either.
As shown by Sleeper Guardians on X, Bibee finished the season with a 4.24 ERA and a 1.23 WHiP on 182.1 innings of work.
He averaged three strikeouts per walk and logged a 12-11 record with a 1.1 WAR.

To be fair, those numbers were disappointing, but while they didn’t meet his usual standards, it’s not like they were bad numbers.
Bibee was emotional multiple times this season, and he often let his emotions get the best of him.
He knew he failed to deliver up to his usual standards, and he must’ve put a lot of pressure on himself.
More than that, he clearly let the team’s bad season get to him.
Even so, he often delivered when it mattered most, including late in the season and in the playoffs.
The Guardians have plenty of options to choose from in their rotation next season, but Bibee should still be the primary candidate to be the first guy to take the mound for them next season.
He needs to make the most of this offseason to restore his body, regroup, get his mind right, and just be ready, as he’s too talented not to bounce back next year.
