The Cleveland Guardians went through one of the worst months in franchise history in June.
They went through a massive offensive slump, and it looked like they were going to fall out of the playoff mix.
Fast forward to today, and the offense has finally woken up.
As reported by Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com, the Guardians have been one of the hottest offensive teams in the league during their recent surge.
“In this 12-game heater, the Guardians have scored 75 runs, an average of 6.3 per game. In their 10-game losing streak, they scored 15 runs, an average of 1.5 per game. They were shut out five times,” Hoynes wrote.
The Guardians might not be in the mix to win the AL Central, but they’re in the race for an AL Wild Card.
They have one of the easiest schedules in baseball the rest of the season, so the door is wide open for them to make a run and get hot when it matters most.
Granted, they still don’t have the type of firepower to keep this offensive surge going for much longer.
But even if they can’t, finding their groove and getting into a rhythm will be huge not only for what they can do at the plate but also for their confidence.
The front office needs to show its support for this group by keeping it together.
If anything, they should look to add an outfielder or two to help the team close the season on a high note.
It’s too early to give up, and the team is trending in the right direction.
