The Cleveland Guardians were hoping to have left-hander reliever Sam Hentges back from a shoulder injury at some point in 2024.
That won’t be the case though.
On Tuesday, it was announced that he will undergo surgery on his pitching shoulder.
He is now expected to miss the next 12-14 months and that puts his 2025 in serious jeopardy on top of ruling him out for this season.
Hentges was one of the few reliable lefties on the Guardians’ bullpen and he will definitely be missed for as long as he is out.
The Guardians have Tim Herrin, the owner of a 2.05 ERA, as their top southpaw reliever.
They need more than that, though.
Hentges’ injury is unfortunate but will open up more chances for another fellow lefty.
“Herrin has been leaned on a lot and had a great season will need to continue next year with Hentges out for all 2025. Look for the org to add another lefty arm in the off-season. Sabrowski can be a possible option as well. Nice opportunity for him these final couple weeks to show what he can do,” Guardians Prospective posted on X.

Sabrowski struggles with control from time to time, but there is no question he has talent.
He has survived two Tommy John surgeries to make his MLB debut this year, tossing 3.3 scoreless innings in two games.
In 37 Triple-A frames, he posted a 4.38 ERA but accumulated a whopping 53 strikeouts.
He did gave away 30 free passes, though.
If he ever harnesses his stuff, Sabrowski might have a future with the Guardians.
He has a golden opportunity, starting from this very moment, to impress.
