The Cleveland Guardians got a massive boost with one of their youngsters.
Parker Messick has been on a roll since he got a chance to prove his worth in the majors.
That was the case again on Saturday night when he held his ground to help his team secure a much-needed 3-1 win over the Chicago White Sox.
Messick has established himself as a big part of what they’re doing right now.
More than that, he also wants to be a part of this team for years to come, as he recently told the media:
“My goal is to pitch here for a long time,” said Messick. “I wanted to help the team win the best way I could. Fortunately, I’m on a team that really loves winning. We’re fighting as best we can for a playoff spot. We just need some things to fall our way.”
Messick gave up just one earned run on seven hits.
He also issued one walk in six innings of work.
So far, he’s posted a 1.84 ERA with a 1.33 WHIP and 22 strikeouts, logging a 3-0 record and posting four quality starts in his five trips to the mound.
Once again, he left the field and entered the dugout in front of a standing ovation at Progressive Field.
The Guardians tweaked things up and chose to roll with a six-man rotation to face a stretch in which they’ll play 24 games in as many days.
So far, it has worked like a charm.
The rotation, which features the likes of Tanner Bibee, Gavin Williams, Slade Cecconi, Logan Allen, Messick, and Joey Cantillo, has logged a combined ERA of 2.53 over 81.2 innings of work in September, according to MLB.com.
Messick has made a big name for himself, and even if they choose to dial back to a five-man unit, he should be a strong candidate to get the nod.
