The Cleveland Guardians have a lot of talented outfielders. Steven Kwan, Chase DeLauter, Stuart Fairchild, Daniel Schneemann, and Angel Martinez are currently in MLB, and Petey Halpin, Khalil Watson, Ralphy Velazquez, and other excellent hitters at the position are in the upper minors. They are also trying Cooper Ingle, a catcher, as an outfielder as a way to increase his versatility.
In these discussions, some names tend to be overlooked. In this case, that’s definitely Alfonsin Rosario, who is currently in Double-A but is forcing a promotion to Columbus with his incredible performance.
The power-hitting outfielder went yard not once, but twice on Friday night in a losing effort. His OPS for the minor league season in Double-A is now a cool .897, and it comes with a decent .248 batting average.
“Cleveland Guardians 21yr old OF prospect Alfonsin Rosario goes deep for the 2nd time tonight, connecting on a solo shot for his 11th HR of the season in the 6th inning for Akron at Erie,” Guardians Prospective said.

Rosario has a whopping 18 hits in his last 12 games with the RubberDucks, with 10 runs scored, five home runs, and 18 RBI. He is seeing the ball really well at the moment, and is showing that Double-A is no longer a challenge for him.
Yes, the Guardians would need to move around a lot of pieces just to accommodate Rosario in Triple-A Columbus, but it seems well worth the effort. He could have a future in MLB this season or next, but needs to be challenged.
Rosario is far from a perfect hitter. He strikes out way too much, but he has mostly held them in check in those last 12 games, fanning just nine times.
For the season, however, he is striking out at a 33.9 percent clip, before accounting for Friday’s explosive game. It’s something he will need to improve if he wants to make enough contact at the highest level, but he’s young enough to think he has a chance.
Rosario isn’t mentioned in the same breath as fellow Guardians young sluggers such as DeLauter, Travis Bazzana, or even Ingle. It’s time to start paying attention and giving him more chances to prove himself, though, because they could have a sneaky solid power hitter in him.
