The Cleveland Guardians will continue to be without two of their top hurlers.
Luis L. Ortiz has been away from the team for months, and Emmanuel Clase joined him shortly before the trade deadline.
According to MLB insider Bob Nightengale, Major League Baseball has extended their administrative leave indefinitely:
“Cleveland Guardians pitchers Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz’s administrative leave has been extended until further notice as MLB’s investigation involving illegal gambling continues,” Nightengale posted on X.

Ortiz and Clase are tangled up in the same sports gambling investigation.
The Dominican hurlers are facing accusations of a sports gambling scheme centered around their player props.
As a result, they’ve been placed on non-disciplinary paid leave.
There have been a few updates regarding this situation, but the information that has been shared is far from encouraging.
The Guardians acquired Ortiz from the Pittsburgh Pirates this offseason.
He struggled with control at times, but looked like a legitimate starter when he was at his best.
As for Clase, he was considered to be either the best or second-best closer in all of baseball.
He struggled earlier this season, but he could’ve still been either a welcome commodity or a prime trade asset this season.
Now, the Guardians are trying to close out the year on a high note and make the playoffs without two major contributors.
Unfortunately, it might be the last time we’ve seen both of them suit up for the organization, and maybe for any MLB team.
