The Cleveland Guardians placed outfielder Lane Thomas on the 10-day injured list last week, on Friday, with plantar fasciitis in his right foot.
It is one of the most unpredictable injuries in the book, and in some cases, it takes months to fully go away.
Guardians manager Stephen Vogt had some good news to share on Thomas on Wednesday, though.
“Vogt said Lane Thomas (right plantar fasciitis) is back to running and has had a couple good days since going on the IL on Friday. The team anticipates it not being too long of an absence, but they’re going day to day based on how Thomas feels,” MLB.com’s Tim Stebbins posted on X.

When dealing with such a treacherous, unpredictable injury, updates like the one Stebbins offered on Wednesday are extremely encouraging.
Just a few days of inactivity have done wonders for Thomas’ foot.
He is running again, too, a good sign that there has been healing.
However, the player’s progress will be entirely dictated by how he feels on a given day.
It’s a matter of trusting his foot to do just about every baseball activity.
That’s when the team will be able to think about a potential return date.
For now, Thomas is still on the shelf, diligently working to get back to 100 percent.
He has already spent about a month on the injured list, with a bone bruise on his wrist.
Even though he is hitting a meager .119 in 59 at-bats, the Guardians need him for depth purposes and because his upside is much better than that.
