The Cleveland Guardians had one of the ultimate feel-good stories this season.
Reliever Nic Enright, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, got his first MLB save.
Unfortunately, it might be a while before he’s back on the mound, although not completely because of his condition.
He’s been dealing with elbow/forearm inflammation and will visit a specialist to determine the extent of the injury, according to manager Stephen Vogt.
“Right-hander Nic Enright (right elbow) is scheduled to visit Dr. Keith Meister for a second opinion on his elbow. Manager Stephen Vogt added that Enright’s treatments for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma have complicated the evaluation of his elbow,” Paul Hoynes wrote.
The Guardians placed Enright on the 15-day injured list after he reportedly experienced soreness during his last outing.
He was feeling better after a few days of rest, but he experienced soreness again, so the team chose to be cautious.
They recalled Zak Kent from Triple-A to replace him.
The Guardians have no margin for error at this point in the season as they try to get back to the playoffs after a complicated campaign.
Of course, every team is banged up right now, with just a handful of games left, and it will take a major push and a strong effort to get through the finish line.
Hopefully, it won’t be much longer before Enright takes the mound again.
But if it’s not this season, the Guardians need to make sure that someone else steps up in his absence.
