The Cleveland Guardians have gone through this entire offseason without spending any money, which is why it was so shocking to see them randomly drop the news this weekend that superstar third baseman Jose Ramirez agreed to a restructured seven-year, $175 million deal that ties him to the Guardians through 2032. His current extension was set to expire in a few years, but those years were bought out and replaced to keep him in Cleveland, potentially through the end of his illustrious career.
Ramirez is coming off another one of the best years of his career, and no one should be worried about handing this 33-year-old another long extension. He has shown no signs of slowing down and clearly loves this city, which was only reinforced after one of his old quotes went viral recently.
Guardians Prospective shared a clip from Cleveland’s celebration after winning the AL Central a few months back.
To the surprise of nobody, Ramirez took the time to share how much he loves his home.
“Cleveland is the best. I love Cleveland. It’s my house, Cleveland is my house.”

Now, Cleveland will remain his home for at least another seven years. The reality is that Cleveland will be his home long past 2032, because the way things are headed, he is shaping up to begin and end a Hall of Fame career with this team, get his number retired, and get a statue.
This team has gone through a lot of ups and downs since Ramirez’s debut in 2013, and he has been the one constant throughout it all. He is the last remaining member of the 2016 World Series team, and hopefully, he can be the one to lead this squad to a long-awaited championship before the end of this contract.
You couldn’t ask for more from a foundational superstar, and this team is lucky that he has such a deep love and connection with the city.
The front office owes it to him to do everything it can to build this roster around him and give him the best chance of winning a ring before he finally hangs up his cleats, which, if all goes according to plan, will be in a Guardians uniform.
