Cleveland Guardians star Jose Ramirez is one of MLB’s premier power-speed threats. It’s impressive how that’s been the case for nearly a decade now. He is, for now, still enjoying his prime even at 33 years old, leading the American League in stolen bases and showing off his wheels on the bases at every opportunity he gets.
Ramirez entered Saturday’s game against the Athletics with 12 stolen bases on the season and 299 for his career, on the verge of a cool, relevant milestone.
He got that 300th career theft in Saturday’s game, becoming just the fourth active player in the club.
“José Ramírez is now the 4th active player with 300 career stolen bases (Trea Turner, Jose Altuve, Starling Marte). Ramírez also becomes the 3rd third baseman with 300 SBs (Hans Lobert, Chone Figgins),” Guardians insider Mason Horodyski said.

As you can see, third base is not exactly a traditional position for basestealers. In a way, Ramirez broke the mold and established a new standard.
He has been flirting with 30-30 seasons since 2016, when he was one of the reasons why the team made it to the World Series. Today, ten years later, he remains an elite performer and a future Hall of Fame candidate.
Ramirez is universally recognized as one of the best players in the league. In addition to the 300 stolen bases, he is at 291 career home runs. Nine more, and he will become a member of the 300-300 club.
Only eight players in the history of the game have hit at least 300 home runs and stolen 300 bags: Barry Bonds, Alex Rodriguez, Willie Mays, Andre Dawson, Carlos Beltran, Bobby Bonds, Reggie Sanders, and Steve Finley.
That’s the kind of company Ramirez is destined to enjoy in a few weeks or months, if he stays healthy and barring an unforeseen scenario. He may not look like an overly powerful guy, but his barrel control and willingness to pull his fly balls have given him the tools to become a real threat in the home run department.
Needless to say, he is still a fast and smart baserunner, too. With 13 steals, he is now closing on the MLB lead, held by Nasim Nunez with 14.
It’s another great achievement for one of the greatest Guardians of all time.
