The Cleveland Guardians moved back above .500 on Saturday when they took down the Tampa Bay Rays 3-2, as they have now won three out of four games and have pulled within 2.5 games of the Seattle Mariners for the third and final Wild Card spot in the American League.
Superstar third baseman Jose Ramirez went 1-for-3 with a double and a stolen base, which wasn’t his best performance, but it still made franchise history.
With his 37th stolen base of the year, Ramirez moved into second place in Guardians history on the stolen base list, passing Omar Vizquel and pulling to within 172 of Kenny Lofton.

Ramirez has a chance to top his career high of steals that he set last year when he swiped 41 bags, and if he had started stealing bases with this frequency earlier in his career, he might have had an easier shot at catching Lofton.
Aside from the COVID season in 2020, this is Ramirez’s seventh consecutive season with at least 20 homers and 20 steals.
He is reaching the age where he seems to pass a new milestone every week, and if he keeps going at his current pace, he’ll find himself knocking on the door of the Hall of Fame.
Ramirez has been by far the Guardians’ best player this season, and many times, he has been the only reliable member of the offense.
When Ramirez eventually hangs them up, he’ll find himself all over the Guardians’ record books, though he has some work to do if he wants to catch Lofton.
