The Cleveland Guardians beat the Detroit Tigers on Monday by the tiniest of margins, 2-1.
Jose Ramirez was, once again, the hero of the day for Cleveland: he hit a go-ahead solo home run in the sixth inning that broke a 1-1 tie.
It was his seventh blast of the year and the second consecutive game in which he went yard.
Over the course of his career, J-Ram has been there when his team has needed him.
He has a reputation as being “clutch,” and the numbers more than back that up.
“José Ramírez’s 87th go-ahead home run now puts him on top of the @cleguardians franchise leaderboard. The spot was previously held by @baseballhall Larry Doby. Doby’s last go-ahead home run occurred on 9/5/1958. (Off Early Wynn)” Guardians historian Jeremy Feador tweeted.

87 of Ramirez’s 223 career home runs have helped the Guardians take the lead in a game.
That ratio is absolutely fantastic and shows how timely some of his homers are.
Ramirez is a stud and a globally recognized star, even if it feels he is underappreciated as a player and as a baseball personality sometimes.
Perhaps the most impressive thing of Ramirez now being the Guardian with the most go-ahead homers all-time is the fact that he isn’t an aging veteran.
He is still very much in his prime, at 31 years old.
We are talking about a future Guardians Hall of Famer here.
The impact he has had on the franchise cannot be easily measured, but you can be sure it is very significant.
He is just a special player, one who has the look of a Guardian for life.
