The Cleveland Guardians have a legitimate superstar at third base.
Jose Ramirez continues to age like a fine wine, and he’s starting to catch fire.
That’s why he’s climbed all the way up to No. 6 in the league’s latest hitter power rankings:
“Ramírez is always one of the best hitters in the game, but the power has really come on in July. He has seven home runs over his past 15 games, which is one fewer than he hit in May and June combined. J-Ram also has nine steals this month and 30 on the season, on pace for his second straight 30-30 season and third overall in his career,” Randhawa wrote.
As the article points out, Ramirez has always been a decent power-hitter, but he’s looking like a deadly slugger right now.
That combination of speed, contact, and power is rare, much more for a player his age.
The Guardians have been red-hot over their last fourteen games or so, and plenty of that has to do with their Dominican superstar.
Ramirez also made history this season by logging yet another season with at least 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases, now being tied for the third-most in MLB history (7).
He still needs to have three more seasons like that to catch the legendary Barry Bonds at the top of that list, and while that will clearly be way easier said than done, Ramirez has shown no signs of slowing down any time soon.
Ramirez is the type of player who has become must-watch television, bringing in plenty of eyeballs to the Guardians.
Hopefully, the front office will finally do right by him and bring in the type of star players he needs around him to lead this team to the mountaintop.
And even if that’s not the case at the trade deadline, they will have another chance to do so in the offseason before it’s too late.
