The Cleveland Guardians added a veteran presence to their roster this offseason, and it appears the move is already making a strong impression inside the clubhouse. According to one insider, the early reviews from teammates have been extremely positive. The veteran slugger is not only expected to help the lineup, but he is already building a reputation as a strong clubhouse leader.
The Guardians signed Rhys Hoskins to strengthen the middle of their lineup and add experience to a relatively young roster. Hoskins has spent most of his career as a power hitter capable of driving in runs and providing leadership. While his production on the field will be important, it appears his impact inside the clubhouse may be just as valuable.
During a recent appearance on the Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show, insider Tim Stebbins shared what he has been hearing about Hoskins from people within the organization.
“What you hear several times is that people in that clubhouse are raving about him,” Stebbins said. “He is just a great clubhouse presence, and that is one of the early takeaways.”
Veteran players who bring strong leadership and personality can often help set the tone for a team, especially during the early stages of a season.
Hoskins has long been known around baseball as a respected teammate. During his years with the Philadelphia Phillies and later the Milwaukee Brewers, he developed a reputation for professionalism and strong work habits. Those traits appear to be carrying over into his time with Cleveland.
For the Guardians, adding that type of personality to the roster could be important. The team continues to build around stars like Jose Ramirez and Steven Kwan while integrating younger players into key roles. Having experienced voices in the clubhouse can help guide those players as they navigate the long MLB season.
While the regular season will ultimately determine how impactful Hoskins is for the Guardians, the early feedback from inside the clubhouse is certainly encouraging. If the early reactions from teammates are any indication, Cleveland may have added more than just a bat to its roster this year.
