The Cleveland Guardians need some firepower for their offense.
Some thought that Chase DeLauter could provide that spark this season.
Unfortunately, that might not be the case at all.
According to a report by Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com, DeLauter still won’t be back from his latest injury:
“Outfielder Chase DeLauter, the Guardians’ No.2 prospect according to MLB.com, is scheduled to have his right wrist evaluated in the coming days. DeLauter was not in the starting lineup for the Triple-A Columbus Clippers on Friday or Saturday against Iowa, the Cubs Triple-A team. He was unable to play because of soreness in his wrist. After Sunday’s game against Iowa, the Clippers are returning to Columbus. The Guardians are working on plans to have DeLauter evaluated after that,” Hoynes wrote.
The Clippers will return to Columbus after their Sunday matchup against Iowa, and the Guardians will re-evaluate his wrist injury once they get back in town.
The superstar outfielder prospect has been dealing with the injury for the last two or three weeks, according to Hoynes.
He was forced to miss the final two games before the All-Star break because of that.
Per the report, the team allowed him to go back home during the break, hoping that some much-needed rest and time off would help with the swelling.
Unfortunately, he’s still reportedly dealing with some pain, so the team is now trying to determine the best course of action.
Even so, you wouldn’t be able to tell that he was dealing with any sort of discomfort.
The former first-round pick is hitting .278 with five home runs, eight doubles, and 21 RBI in 34 appearances at Triple-A this season.
That should speak volumes about the type of unique talent the Guardians have on their hands right now.
Then again, availability is often the best of abilities, and DeLauter has had a tough time staying on the field since he was drafted.
So far, he’s dealt with toe, foot, hamstring, hernia, and now wrist injuries.
