The Cleveland Guardians could be about to make a roster move before their series finale against the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday. If it happens, it will involve a couple of bullpen pieces.
As you probably know by now, the Guardians’ bullpen is not a top unit in the league, as has been the case in some of the last few seasons, but it’s also not a liability. It’s a perfectly average unit: nothing more, nothing less.
The Guardians, of course, want to change that, but it usually takes some time because it involves unearthing some hidden gems, getting back some injured players, and giving opportunities to the right pitchers.
Judging by the events of Wednesday morning, it sure looks like Codi Heuer is next in line to get a chance to help the Guardians.
“Codi Heuer is here and has a locker in the Guardians’ clubhouse. No move announced yet,” team insider Tim Stebbins posted on X.

Right before Christmas Eve, on December 22, the Guardians signed Heuer to a one-year minor league deal and invited him to spring training after he spent most of the 2025 campaign in Triple-A with the Detroit Tigers and the Texas Rangers. He did pitch 4.2 MLB innings between the two organizations, posting a 5.79 ERA.
Heuer opened the year in Cleveland’s Triple-A affiliate, the Columbus Clippers, where he has put up a 2.57 ERA in 14 innings, with seven walks and 12 punchouts. Even though his control and command haven’t been sharp so far in the minor league season, the Guardians might require a fresh arm for the bullpen after starting pitcher Slade Cecconi covered only four frames on Tuesday night.
It appears that Heuer will be that guy. The Guardians, however, haven’t announced any moves, so there is no indication as to who might leave the roster to accommodate Heuer.
The fact that he has a locker, however, indicates that a move will come sooner or later, most likely at some point before the afternoon game vs. the Angels to wrap up their series.
Heuer has a 3.67 career ERA and is still 29, so he should be able to post solid numbers as long as he gets a fair chance.
