The Cleveland Guardians are in a tough spot right now.
The trade deadline is closing in, and with it, rumors and speculation have flooded social media.
Multiple teams know they’re going to be buyers or sellers, but the Guardians seem to be somewhat stuck in between.
They’re not bad enough to blow things up and just give up, nor good enough to be a postseason lock.
With that in mind, multiple teams are trying to get their hands on Steven Kwan and Emmanuel Clase.
However, according to a report by Zack Meisel of The Athletic, the Guardians are unlikely to move on from either of them, especially Kwan:
“Most of all, teams want to know whether they can pry away closer Emmanuel Clase or left fielder Steven Kwan. That seems doubtful, especially Kwan,” Meisel wrote.
Truth be told, there’s little to no financial incentive to trade either of those players.
Kwan has two more years of club control before becoming a free agent in 2028, and Clase is also on a team-friendly contract.
Of course, someone else could come knocking with a Godfather-like offer that could change the team’s stance on any of them, but that doesn’t seem realistic right now.
The Guardians aren’t that far behind in the playoff race, and they could be just a piece or two away from becoming a serious threat.
They’re not likely going to part ways with prospects to land the type of players they need to turn things around in the second half of the season.
Even still, giving up on two of their best players would send the wrong message, and it would all but end their aspirations.
