The Cleveland Guardians might still not be the team they were in 2024, but they do have that potential, and they aren’t that far away.
With a few reinforcements coming in the upcoming weeks, they might eventually resemble the squad that went to the American League Championship Series in 2024.
For now, they are more than holding their own.
They are competing, even with their flaws, with the best of the best.
They just wrapped up an incredibly difficult portion of their schedule: the Detroit Tigers, owners of MLB’s best record, and the reigning World Series champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers.
That stretch of games somehow included a three-game losing streak, yet a positive record.
“Guardians just went 4-3 in a 7-game stretch vs. the Tigers and Dodgers. Let’s keep some perspective in this long marathon, while also realizing if the MLB Playoffs started today, Cleveland would be in as the top Wildcard club in the American League,” sports broadcaster Nick Camino posted on X.

Camino points out that the MLB campaign is not a sprint: it’s a marathon.
Within that marathon, taking four out of seven against arguably the top two teams in the league right now is nothing short of amazing.
After winning the first three games against the Tigers, Cleveland went on to lose the finale of the four-game set and the first two against LA.
Then, on Wednesday, they clawed back and took the last one against the Dodgers, “winning” their symbolic seven-game stretch.
Despite being short-handed by key injuries and affected by a glaring hole at right field and inconsistent rotation play, the Guardians will put up a fight.
And the best days of the season might be around the corner, when David Fry, Shane Bieber, Trevor Stephan, Lane Thomas, and other stars return to the active roster.
