For years, Steven Kwan has been one of the most consistent players in Major League Baseball.
He’s one of the few bright spots in the Cleveland Guardians’ offense, and his defense has also been stellar.
That’s why Ken Carman doesn’t want to see him go.
Now that the trade deadline is closing in and some believe Kwan could be on his way out, Carman urged the team to sign him to a contract extension instead.
You don't trade Steven Kwan. You extend Steven Kwan.

Kwan is on a team-friendly deal and under club control for more years.
The Guardians are known for letting their star players go before they hit arbitration and get more expensive.
Even so, Kwan should be the exception to that trend.
Reports from earlier in the season showed that the Guardians were ‘trying’ to sign Kwan to an extension, but the fact that it hasn’t happened might mean that both parties are still far away in talks.
Kwan has three more years of team control before hitting free agency in 2028.
He got a $4.1 million deal heading into the season to avoid arbitration.
Trading him right now would pretty much be giving up on the season, and with an easier schedule in the second half, that simply doesn’t make any sense.
And even though that’s not usually what this team does, they don’t have anybody even remotely close to him.
If anything, they need way more help in the outfield to salvage their season.
