The Cleveland Guardians are still holding competitions of all kinds in spring training.
Angel Martinez, Juan Brito, Gabriel Arias, Daniel Schneemann, and Tyler Freeman are vying for the second base gig.
Jhonkensy Noel and Will Brennan, among others, are competing for at-bats in right field.
Almost a dozen pitchers are trying to lock down a rotation spot.
Generally speaking, you can say that more than half of the players present in camp are trying to secure a spot on the Opening Day roster.
That dream just ended for seven members of the Guardians on Tuesday afternoon.
“Guardians roster now at 52 players after seven moves today: Petey Halpin optioned to Columbus, Will Dion, Tanner Burns, Mason Hickman, Jack Leftwich, Jake Anchia, Cooper Ingle reassigned to Minor League camp,” team insider Tim Stebbins posted on X.

Some of these players are expected to play some sort of role in the organization in the future.
Halpin, for example, is a talented outfielder who was just added to the 40-man roster in November.
He was hitting just .063 in the Cactus League, though, so the writing was on the wall.
Dion had some impressive outings from the mound, with a 4.50 ERA but 11 strikeouts in six frames.
The highest-profile name of the group, however, is probably Cooper Ingle.
He is considered by many a top-10 prospect in the Guardians’ system and was hitting a robust .455 batting average in 11 at-bats.
His time will come, but there is just no space for him on the active roster and he still has some development to do.
More cuts will be coming in the next few days.
