All eyes are set on the development of one specific Cleveland Guardians minor leaguer: second baseman Travis Bazzana.
Before the season started, the organization didn’t have a clear-cut choice to play at second base, so there was talk about Bazzana making it to the majors this year at some point.
Now, the Guardians have two solid starting-caliber options for the keystone in Gabriel Arias and Daniel Schneemann, yet there is still a chance Bazzana makes his MLB debut later this year.
He is definitely playing like a man who deserves another challenge; if not yet in the majors, then at least at Triple-A.
“Third game of Travis Bazzana’s pro career with 3+ hits! MLB’s No. 7 prospect (@CleGuardians) is hitting .310 with a .517 SLG this month for the Double-A @AkronRubberDuck,” Guardians Prospective posted on X.

The pride of Australia went 3-for-5 with a double and three runs scored on Thursday.
Yes, Bazzana has been good all year, with a 125 wRC+.
He has been particularly effective in May, as you can see: a .517 slugging percentage is a very cool mark for a middle infielder, even if the sample is really small for now.
But the Guardians have been very smart with his development and probably won’t rush his ascent to the next level or even to Columbus.
He is performing adequately, but they probably want to see what his true ceiling is before moving him up and making him adapt to new surroundings again.
The team is no longer in a hurry, and that’s good news for Bazzana’s development.
He won’t be rushed, and that’s a positive.
If he makes it to the majors this year, it will be because he earned it on the field and not because the Guardians need a second baseman badly.
