The Cleveland Guardians and their fans are forming a prayer circle around top prospect Travis Bazzana.
The star second baseman had to leave the second game of Double-A Akron’s doubleheader on Wednesday after hitting a double in the fourth inning.
Since he was removed from that game, he hasn’t touched the field, as the Guardians try to determine the severity of the ailment.
They did provide some details, though.
“Guardians top prospect and ’24 No. 1 overall pick Travis Bazzana is dealing with right side soreness after exiting the second game of Double-A Akron’s doubleheader on Wednesday. The team is still awaiting for an official diagnosis,” MLB Pipeline posted on X.

The organization is expected to offer more details over the weekend, such as the exact body part (ribs, oblique, or a different one) affected and the timeline of the injury.
There is a very high likelihood that Bazzana is dealing with an oblique strain, and if that’s the case, they will need to assess the severity.
A mild strain could keep him out for just a couple of weeks at most, but a tear might take weeks or even months off his 2025 campaign.
Bazzana was sporting a .252 batting average with a 136 wRC+, four home runs, and eight stolen bases in 33 games at Double-A Akron before getting hurt.
He was enjoying an amazing season and was probably on the doorstep of a call-up to Triple-A Columbus.
That will now have to wait, as his health is obviously the priority here.
He is the Guardians’ best prospect and a top 15 one in MLB, so expect the team to play it safe and be ultra cautious with this injury.
