It’s safe to say that, to this point, Cleveland Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez hasn’t had the best season.
In fact, you could very well say he is having one of the worst seasons of his young career with the bat, with a mediocre .256/.303/.342 line, five home runs and a .645 OPS.
However, he still manages to contribute to his team with his incredible defense (15 DRS), baserunning (16 stolen bases) and intangibles.
There might be good news for Cleveland fans, though: Gimenez is getting hot.
“Andres Gimenez has been HOT during his 10-game hit streak!,” Cleveland Baseball Insider tweeted, with a graphic.

The graphic shows Gimenez’s performance in the last 10 games, and the numbers are impressive: 14 hits, three doubles and a .368 batting average.
For the Guardians, Gimenez is more than just a young player they can easily send down if he is not performing.
They signed him to a seven-year, $106.5 million contract before the start of the 2023 season, so there are financial implications tied to him, his presence in the lineup and his performance.
The Guards signed him when he was coming off an .837 OPS campaign in 2022.
He checked in at .712 in 2023 and is sporting the disappointing .645 mark in 2024.
Cleveland hopes he can start to hit better.
The 2022 version of Gimenez was an absolute beast of a player: he could hit for power, steal bases and excel with the glove.
That’s why he got the big paycheck.
It’s time to extend his hot streak and show the world he can return to being that player again, even if the odds are against him.
