The Cleveland Guardians are still in the AL Wild Card race, but they don’t have any margin for error.
They’re on the outside looking in with opportunities dwindling.
Perhaps that’s why they didn’t move up or down in Bleacher Report’s latest power rankings.
Despite some solid play as of late, the Guardians are at No. 16, just like last week.
All things considered, that might actually be a positive thing.
They had slipped for a couple of weeks before finally going back up after getting out of their latest slump.
The Guardians are chasing the Seattle Mariners and play the Kansas City Royals, another AL Wild Card contender, this week.
Unfortunately, you never know which version of the Guardians you’re going to get.
They can look like a legitimate World Series contender or go three games without scoring more than two runs.
That type of inconsistency, especially at the plate, has been the main reason behind their season-long woes.
Hopefully, they will play well enough to move up at least a couple of spots in next week’s power rankings.
Otherwise, it will be very difficult, not to say impossible, to think of a realistic scenario in which they can get into the playoffs.
