The Cleveland Guardians have more than enough talent in their farm system. They have one of the most proficient and productive player development staffs, and their scouting department has done a great job of identifying talent more often than not.
That’s why it’s not much of a surprise to see one of their top prospects turning heads in winter ball right now. As shown by Sleeper Guardians on X, Angel Genao has been pretty impressive in the season break.
He’s played 26 games in the Dominican Republic’s LIDOM. So far, he’s put up a .325 batting average, a .773 OPS, a .387 OBP, and he’s scored 14 runs with eight RBI and four stolen bases.

The Guardians are already stacked in the middle of the infield. Genao still might not be ready to make it to the show, but he’s going to make life interesting and give Stephen Vogt a great problem to have once they call him up.
Brayan Rocchio and Gabriel Arias will most likely be in the mix to start at shortstop, at least at the beginning of the season. But with Genao’s offensive expertise and ever-developing game, it will be hard not to give him a chance at some point in the campaign.
The Guardians have a long history of finding and developing elite middle infielders, and Genao looks poised to be the next guy up. And with former No. 1 pick Travis Bazzana taking care of business at second base, this team should be all set for many years to come.
