The Cleveland Guardians will not be taking the field Sunday afternoon. Inclement weather forced the postponement of the series finale against the Detroit Tigers, and the team announced the news on X.
“Today’s game has been postponed. #GuardsBall,” Guardians posted.

The June 14 game against Detroit will be rescheduled as part of a split doubleheader on Friday, September 4, with the makeup game starting at 2:10 p.m. ET and the originally scheduled September 4 game beginning at 7:10 p.m. ET. Gates for the first game will open at 1:00 p.m. ET and gates for the night game will open at 6:00 p.m. ET. Fans will be cleared from the ballpark between games. Fans holding tickets dated June 14 can use their exact same ticket to enter the 2:10 p.m. game on September 4 without making an exchange, though those tickets will not grant access to the night game.
The postponement gives the Guardians an off day they did not plan for but perhaps needed. Saturday’s 3-1 win over Detroit came at a steep cost, with Jose Ramirez, Chase DeLauter, and Angel Martinez all leaving the game with injuries. Ramirez was confirmed Saturday night to have a left hamate bone fracture and is headed to the IL.
The unexpected day off allows the medical staff additional time to evaluate DeLauter’s scans, gives the battered roster a chance to breathe before the next series begins, and lets the front office continue mapping out the roster moves that will define Cleveland’s path forward without its franchise player.
Cleveland sits at 39-33 and holds a half-game lead over the Chicago White Sox in the AL Central. The Guardians face the Brewers on Tuesday in what will be the first real test of what the Guardians look like without Jose Ramirez in the lineup.
