Cleveland Guardians fans haven’t had much to hang their hats on this season, as the team is 40-39 and sitting a distant 9.5 games behind the Detroit Tigers in the AL Central thanks to a lifeless offense.
Despite recently being shut out for the fourth time in June, Cleveland is still in a position to put a pair of franchise cornerstones in the All-Star Game once again.
The Guardians announced on X that Jose Ramirez and Steven Kwan have been named finalists at their respective positions to represent the Guardians and the American League in Atlanta at the All-Star Game.

Ramirez is having his typical dominant season, leading the team in batting average (.317), home runs (13), RBIs (38), OPS (.892), stolen bases (21), and a number of other offensive categories.
Kwan is batting .306 with a near 1:1 walk-to-strikeout ratio and has accumulated an impressive 3.5 WAR thus far.
Ramirez is seeking his fourth All-Star Game start and will be competing with Alex Bregman of the Boston Red Sox for the spot, though Bregman has been out injured for the past month and likely won’t return until after the break, leaving the path wide open for Ramirez to earn the nod.
Kwan will be vying for a starting spot in the outfield with Javier Baez and Riley Greene of the Detroit Tigers and Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels, and he has a strong case given how consistent he has been and the fact that he has had such a strong year on defense, including having the most valuable outfield arm in the game.
There is still some time to go before the official starters are announced, and it seems like a safe bet that even if either of them doesn’t start, both Ramirez and Kwan shouldn’t book any sort of vacation over the All-Star break.
