Just a couple of weeks ago, the Cleveland Guardians looked like a lost cause.
They endured one of the toughest months in franchise history, hitting rock bottom with a massive offensive slump in June.
But now that they’ve gotten back on track, those who were keeping tabs on their players to try to make a trade might have to look somewhere else.
Zack Meisel of The Athletic recently revealed that multiple teams were keeping an eye on three players, thinking they could be had.
Now, that’s not likely to be the case.
“A lot of teams have been calling about Steven Kwan, Emmanuel Clase and Cade Smith, especially when the Guardians were losing 10 in a row. They’re thinking, ‘Oh, all these guys could be on the table,’ and the Guardians were quick to say, ‘Not so fast,'” Meisel said.

There’s no point in trading any of those players, not even if the Guardians were at the bottom of the standings.
They’re on team-friendly contracts and under club control for years to come.
On top of that, even if the Guardians fail to make the playoffs this season, they’re still an integral part of the core, and the team could get back to contention with just a couple of moves in the offseason.
The Guardians haven’t been consistent this season, and it remains to be seen if their recent surge is going to be sustainable.
But trading those players would be waving the white flag, and it’s too early to take that approach.
