Guardians Reliever Suffers Concerning Injury

The Cleveland Guardians bullpen has been a bit overworked of late with the starting rotation routinely failing to get through six innings, which has been a big reason why the team has slipped into fourth place in the AL Central. The bullpen has been the backbone of the team over the past few years, and that is once again the case in 2026 as Cleveland aims to win the AL Central for a third year in a row.

The bullpen’s health has been quite strong this year, but with the relievers being a bit overworked, it wasn’t too shocking to see a key member of the ‘pen ultimately succumb to an injury on Saturday.

Colin Holderman left Saturday’s win over the San Diego Padres with an apparent injury. He left with the medical crew after recording the first two outs in the seventh inning with what the team later announced to be wrist inflammation.

Holderman is one of six members of this bullpen to have already logged 45 appearances this season and he leads the team with a 0.92 WHIP. The good news is that wrist inflammation is a lot more manageable than any elbow or shoulder injury and manager Stephen Vogt said after the game that Holderman likely could have pitched through it if need be.

That’s a decent indication that this won’t be a long-term absence, which would be devastating given how pivotal he is to this bullpen. Holderman is in the midst of what is by far the best year of his career and it would be a shame if he were to miss extended time.

Hopefully he can avoid the IL and be fine after a few days of rest, but fans will likely have to wait a day or two to gain some clarity on the situation. Stay tuned for updates and any corresponding roster moves.
