The Cleveland Guardians seem to be calling up a player from the minors every couple of days. Cooper Ingle became the latest prospect to make his MLB debut when he went 0-for-2 as the DH against the Seattle Mariners on Friday.
Meanwhile, other young players continue to put together impressive seasons in the minor leagues. That includes Ralphy Velazquez, who is ranked as the organization’s No. 2 overall prospect by MLB.com.
With all of the activity at the major league level, Velazquez is on a streak that nobody’s really talking about, having reached base in 18 straight games for Columbus in Triple-A.
“Cleveland Guardians 21-year-old (1B) prospect Ralphy Velazquez extends his on-base streak to 18 straight games on an opposite field base hit in the 6th inning at Omaha. 101.9 mph off the bat,” Guardians Prospective posted.

Velazquez opened the season with Double-A Akron before earning his promotion with a .980 OPS in 36 games. In 28 games with Columbus, he has a .697 OPS.
His on-base streak started on June 3, and since then, he is 19-for-73 (.260) with four doubles, one home run, six RBIs, and seven walks. It was kept alive with a hit by a pitch on both June 6 and June 11.
Even though there may have been an obvious opportunity for Velazquez to be called up while Guardians first baseman Kyle Manzardo was in a massive slump early in the season, it did not line up with the organization’s timeline. Now that Manzardo is playing better, Velazquez may have to wait a while longer to make his MLB debut, barring an injury to someone, of course.
Ingle became the ninth Guardians player to make his MLB debut this season, joining position players Chase DeLauter, Juan Brito, Travis Bazzana and Khalil Watson. The group includes pitchers Peyton Pallette, Will Dion, Franco Aleman and Daniel Espino.
Ingle catcher earned his promotion with a .551 slugging percentage that leads the Guardians’ minor leaguers. He had a .284 batting average with 12 home runs for Columbus, and it is hoped he can provide a boost to the Guardians’ lackluster offense.
If Cleveland continues to struggle at the plate, maybe Velazquez will become the next prospect to make his MLB debut this season.
