The youth movement within the Cleveland Guardians organization has started to pay real dividends this season. There is no telling where the Guardians would be in the standings without the production of young talents such as Brayan Rocchio, Parker Messick, Travis Bazzana, Chase DeLauter, Joey Cantillo, and others.
As exciting as that youth movement has been, the Guardians are far from finished. There is a lot more talent making its way up the minor league system, and the team’s best remaining hitting prospect recently continued his unbelievable streak as he continues to apply pressure on the front office to call him up.
Guardians Prospective shared that Ralphy Velazquez has now reached base in 30 consecutive games after his infield single for Columbus on Friday. He is now the Guardians best prospect and is producing well beyond what anyone would expect from someone who just turned 21 in Triple-A.
“30 straight for Ralphy! Cleveland #Guardians 21yr old (1B) prospect Ralphy Velazquez extends his on-base streak to 30 games on an infield base hit in the 4th inning tonight for Columbus,” Guardians Prospective wrote.

Velazquez has raked every step of the way since Cleveland drafted him 23rd overall in 2023. This year, he has continued to improve with an .876 OPS across two levels.
Kyle Manzardo and Rhys Hoskins have been inconceivably bad at first base, and while you never want to rush a prospect who just turned 21, Velazquez is pushing hard to earn himself a late-season call up to potentially give this team some much-needed power at first base.
Of course, the trade deadline is around the corner and that would be the ideal place for the Guardians to find a bat. Velazquez really shouldn’t see the majors until next year, especially since it won’t be too tough to go acquire somebody like Christian Walker, Isaac Paredes, or Luis Arraez ahead of the deadline.
With the American League this wide open, the Guardians have no excuse not to go for it this year. They may not get a better opportunity to end their World Series drought.
