The Cleveland Guardians lost three straight games to the Chicago White Sox from Thursday to Saturday.
In those three games, they scored a mere six runs.
After Saturday’s defeat, they even lost the top spot of the AL Central to the red-hot Minnesota Twins.
But the MLB season is a marathon, not a sprint.
Marathons require a different set of skills and traits to successfully complete it, and patience and determination are two of those.
According to starting pitcher Logan Allen, the Guardians have the mental strength to navigate through the peaks and valleys of the season and make it out in one piece.
Bally Sports Cleveland posted a graphic with some of Allen’s quotes after Sunday’s 7-0 win against the Sox, the one that allowed them to avoid being swept by the worst team in the American League.

As Allen states, he has confidence that his teammates have adopted the “one game away” mantra.
In this case, the Guards were one game away from breaking a tough stretch of games.
Their offense was much criticized (and for good reason) after Saturday, but it came through with seven runs on Sunday.
Allen himself was magnificent from the mound, tossing six scoreless innings with three strikeouts to lift his squad to the victory.
After the game, Cleveland is back in sole possession of first place in the division with a 25-16 record, half a game better than both the Twins and the Kansas City Royals.
The season is long and stressful, but it looks like these three organizations will be fighting all year for the divisional crown.
