Nakken became, in 2022, the first woman to coach in the majors as she took over as first base coach after an ejection.
Per the AP, he played college softball and became a star at Sacramento State.
He had been with the Giants for a decade, since 2014, but Gabe Kapler promoted her to MLB in 2020 for a full-time coaching role.
She started in the baseball operations department as an intern in 2014.
She has a master’s degree in sports management from the University of San Francisco.
There, she also worked as a chief information officer for the baseball team.
It’s important to point out that Nakken interviewed for a managerial position with the Giants in 2023, becoming the first woman to do so for an MLB team.
The official title on Nakken’s job with the Guardians is assistant director within player development.
Her exact role is yet to be determined, but she will reunite with coaches she worked with during her stint with the Giants, such as Craig Albernaz and Kai Correa.
Judging by her resume and experience in a variety of roles in MLB, it certainly seems that Nakken has a lot to contribute to the up-and-coming Guardians in 2025 and beyond.
