The Cleveland Guardians need to be extremely careful with the moves they make this offseason. This roster isn’t that far behind, and they just need to make a couple of tweaks to get to the next level.
That being said, they’re not the type of team that usually dips its toes deep into the free-agency pool, nor will they give up plenty of resources to acquire a big-name player. That’s why they need to be thorough and meticulous about the players they do go after.
With that in mind, the panelists of the Cleveland Baseball Talk Podcast shared their thoughts on potential targets for this team. Ultimately, they agreed on two names:
“Other potentially available bats include Nathaniel Lowe, a former Gold Glove and Silver Slugger winner who could provide stability at first base, and Christopher Morel, a right-handed hitter who blasted 26 home runs with 70 RBIs for the Cubs in 2023. The coming weeks will be critical as Cleveland evaluates these options against their budget constraints and roster needs. While none of these players represent the top tier of free agent talent, they represent exactly the kind of value-oriented additions that could significantly upgrade the lineup without requiring a financial commitment that would hamstring future flexibility,” per Cleveland Baseball Talk Podcast.
The Guardians are a well-coached team that proved to be ahead of schedule last season. Not many people thought they would make the playoffs, given the way they started the season, and much less after losing two key pieces like Luis L. Ortiz and Emmanuel Clase because of a sports gambling investigation.
Stephen Vogt has proven to be the right guy for the job, and their farm system is the gift that always keeps on giving. They will continue to have plenty of young options to choose from and contribute to the team almost right away.
Still, they need to add more proven veterans and a reliable pair of hitters to help this team get to the next level. It won’t be easy, but they should have several options to consider.
