The 2024 MLB season ended a little over a week ago, and fans had a very good look at the best teams in the league.
The criteria for selecting the best squads in the league is not always as simple as ranking the two World Series teams in the top two and the League Championship Series organizations in the top four.
Power rankings leave a lot of room for imagination and subjectivity.
MLB Network, on Thursday, presented their final power rankings of the 2024 season.
The Los Angeles Dodgers, of course, are first.
Then, we see a few surprises.
“Matt Vasgersian thinks the 3 best teams at the end of the ’24 season were all National League teams. Agree or disagree?,” MLB Network posted on X with a graph of the top ten squads.

The San Diego Padres and the Philadelphia Phillies, two National League teams, are second and third, respectively, ahead of the American League Champions New York Yankees.
The Cleveland Guardians, who made it all the way to the ALCS, were seventh in Vasgersian exercise.
That seems a tad low for a team with 92 regular season wins and a postseason series victory.
One can understand the logic of ranking teams such as the Padres, the Phillies and the Yankees ahead of Cleveland.
However, having the Detroit Tigers (fifth) and the Milwaukee Brewers (sixth) ahead of the Guardians is debatable, at the very least.
Cleveland beat the Tigers in the regular season and in their postseason series, so the ranking is odd.
The Guardians are in very good shape heading into 2025, and while they have a few holes to fill in the offseason, they remain one of the best teams in MLB.
Vasgersian doesn’t think they are in the top five, though.
