If you are a player reading this and you have the Cleveland Guardians up ahead in the schedule, this message is for you: don’t run on their outfielders.
Don’t test their arms.
It will likely result in an out on the basepath, and those are very, very costly.
The Guards are leading the league in outfield assists, and they have gotten contributions from several players.
The team put together a useful graph to show just how much each outfielder has pitched in to reach that impressive total.

Defensive ace Steven Kwan has the most outfield assists on the Guardians, with six.
That number also happens to lead the whole league and is further proof that Kwan is an underrated five-tool star.
Four additional players on the Guardians are tied with two outfield assists: Jhonkensy Noel, Lane Thomas, Angel Martinez, and Nolan Jones.
Their feats are much more impressive if you consider the fact that they have all played sparingly.
Thomas has been injured for weeks, Noel and Jones have shared right field duties, and Martinez didn’t even break camp with the Guards.
All of them have strong, accurate arms and aren’t afraid to use them in game situations.
The Guardians are widely recognized as one of the best defensive teams in the league.
That means they are excellent at getting outs, but not just by fielding balls cleanly: their arms also play a role.
Getting outs on the basepaths has often helped Guardians pitchers get out of jams.
As long as these five are in the outfield, Cleveland has an underrated competitive edge.
