Schneemann’s hit joined a growing list of clutch finishes for Cleveland this weekend, following Brayan Rocchio’s grand slam and walk-off homer combination in the opener of Friday’s doubleheader and Travis Bazzana’s game-tying blast and extra-inning single that completed that same sweep.

Gavin Williams once again anchored the pitching staff, allowing two runs while striking out eleven batters across six innings to push his league-leading strikeout total to 228 for the season.
It marked his eighth start against Detroit in his career but just his first this season, and his career ERA against the Tigers dropped to 2.03 following the outing. Williams now leads all of baseball with eleven games of ten or more strikeouts on the season, a number that continues to climb as September unfolds.
The series finale capped an unusual four games in which Cleveland trailed for the majority of every contest, never actually leading at any point until the final at bats on both Friday and Sunday. Despite that pattern, the Guardians improved to 73-71 on the season, having now won eleven of their last seventeen games while Detroit has dropped 17 of its last 22. The walk-off win pushed Cleveland’s extra-innings record to 7-5, a testament to a team that has repeatedly found ways to finish games in dramatic fashion during its stretch run.
Cleveland will now shift its focus toward a three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles beginning Monday at Camden Yards, with left-hander Joey Cantillo taking the mound opposite Trevor Rogers in the opener.
