The Cleveland Guardians are on fire.
They are riding a nine-game winning streak and have swept their last three series.
They also have a +73 run differential after almost two months of the season, the fourth-best mark in all MLB.
Cleveland has been so good that history suggests every time they have started the year at their current pace, there are World Series implications.
“The Guardians are 36-17, which ties the best start through 53 games in the 124-season history of their franchise. The other times they’ve started 36-17… 1995: reached the World Series; 1954: reached the World Series; 1920: won the World Series,” Guardians insider Zack Meisel tweeted.

Their 36-17 record is not only the third-best in MLB and second-best in the American League, but it’s also, as you can see, a good omen if we consider the history of the franchise.
Every time the Guardians have won 36 of their first 53 games, they have reached the Fall Classic.
That has happened three times: in 1920, in 1954, and more recently in 1995.
Will the trend continue in 2024?
Times are different, and the path to the World Series includes many more rivals and obstacles.
It’s impossible to determine if the Guardians will perform just as well in the postseason as they have to this point, but one thing is certain: they are incredibly competitive, and they are built to win now.
They have an elite bullpen, some really solid starters (and the ammunition to go after one at the trade deadline), and some offensive stars such as Jose Ramirez, Josh Naylor, Steven Kwan (currently injured), and the surging Andres Gimenez.
Cleveland is a serious postseason contender at this point.
There is no other way around it.
