The Cleveland Guardians are a unique team.
They overcame the biggest deficit to win a division in MLB history (15.5 games), and they trailed by as many as 11 games at one point in September.
Simply put, they shouldn’t even be in the playoffs.
That’s why it’s not a surprise to see that despite their success, they do have a concerning stat.
“The 2025 Cleveland Guardians have the lowest team batting average for a postseason team in MLB history (.226),” SleeperGuardians wrote on X.

This team wasn’t built to hit its way to a title.
That’s one reason fans and analysts questioned their ability to get to this point, knowing that they moved on from some of their best hitters during the offseason.
Yet they became a team that found a way to get wins when it mattered most.
Granted, that might take them only so far, and it may not be sustainable in the long run.
Nevertheless, the playoffs usually have lower-scoring games, and teams struggle more at the plate as pitching strategy changes, so the field is pretty much leveled.
The Guardians won’t have to alter the way they approach the postseason because they’ve been playing do-or-die baseball for weeks.
They may feel like they are playing with house money right now, and they just need to keep going in the manner that earned them an unexpected AL Central title.
That will begin with Game 1 of the AL Wild Card round against the Detroit Tigers at Progressive Field.
