You can say what you want about the Cleveland Guardians offense, but their defensive ability is notable.
They are one of the best fielding teams in all baseball, with difference-making players at several positions: Andres Gimenez, Jose Ramirez, Steven Kwan, and Myles Straw are just some of them.
Gimenez and Kwan, the Guards’ second baseman and left fielder, respectively, were recognized this week with the Fielding Bible Awards at their positions.

The Fielding Bible Awards are handed out by SIS (Sports Info Solutions).
They recognize defensive excellence but with a keen eye for statistics.
These awards have been around for 18 seasons now.
A panel of experts votes for the winners every year using a stats-based approach.
Gimenez “led all 2nd basemen with 23 Defensive Runs Saved in 2023. He was our Co-Defensive Player of the Month in September. Giménez was the only infielder to be at least 10 Plays Saved above average on balls hit to both his left and his right in 2023.”
Meanwhile, Kwan becomes “the first player to win a Fielding Bible Award in each of his first 2 MLB seasons. He led all left fielders in both Defensive Runs Saved (16) and Good Fielding Plays (24) in 2023. He’s the only Guardians player to win the Award for left field.”
With their exciting plays, incredible range, solid footwork, and uncanny instincts, Gimenez and Kwan are starting to gain recognition as the absolute best defensive players in the league at their respective positions.
