The Cleveland Guardians could be getting a prime reinforcement back on the field pretty soon.
Lane Thomas is inching closer to his return.
According to a report by Tim Stebbins of MLB.com, Manager Stephen Vogt claimed that the star outfielder will begin a rehab assignment this week with Triple-A Columbus.

Thomas has been out since April 22 because of a right wrist bone bruise.
He’s reportedly been free of pain for days and making big strides, and he will now ramp things up to get back to the Majors.
Hopefully, this time away will help him improve his numbers from the earlier stretch of the campaign.
Prior to being placed on the 10-day Injured List (IL), he was slashing just .156/.188/.178 with just two RBIs in 48 plate appearances and 13 games.
Needless to say, he will have to look much better than that during his rehab assignment to force Vogt’s hand to put him right back in the lineup at center field once Angel Martínez is also activated.
Even so, Thomas has already shown that he can be a steady contributor to their offense; he might just need some more time to get back to his usual self.
While his overall numbers weren’t that impressive last season, he closed out the season on a high note, and he played a crucial role in helping the team go the distance and reach the ALCS in just half a season with the organization.
