The Cleveland Guardians may have caught a big break with Gabriel Arias.
The middle infielder missed another game, but it seems like he’s not going to be placed on the injured list after all.
He left a recent win against the Kansas City Royals due to wrist inflammation, but according to manager Stephen Vogt, Arias will be able to play through the pain.
“After the testing and consulting with Dr. [Thomas] Graham and our medical staff and ‘Gabby,’ Gabby is going to be playing through some pain,” Vogt said. “It depends on his tolerance for the pain.”
Arias was injured in late August when he was hit by a pitch. He then missed four games before returning.
Then, he was injured again when he slid into home plate, and though he took another at-bat after that, it was evident that he needed to be looked at.
Arias has been Cleveland’s starting shortstop for a long stretch, posting several career bests while slashing .223/.280/.363 with 10 home runs and 48 RBIs.
He’s been very good with runners in scoring position, slashing .325/.398/.584.
If he has to miss more games, Brayan Rocchio will most likely be at shortstop, and he will go back to second base once Arias returns.
