Earlier this week, Cleveland Guardians catching prospect Cooper Ingle was forced to leave a Triple-A game with an injury. It came on the heels of another excellent game for him, as he was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI when he departed.
The timing was unfortunate, because he was thriving in Columbus and Guardians starter behind the plate, Bo Naylor, is currently sporting a putrid 17 wRC+. There haven’t been any indications that the organization is ready to make a switch, but they can’t wait around for Naylor to show something forever.
There is some good news to report, though. Ingle’s injury doesn’t appear to be so serious. He could be back relatively soon to keep pushing for a promotion to the majors.
“Update on Ingle injury… (There is) optimism currently that he will only miss around a week after reaggravating the same leg injury that caused him to miss time earlier in the season,” Guardians Prospective posted on X.

It’s a foot injury that nagged him a bit earlier this year, and it will require a few days of rest. In about a week or perhaps a bit longer, Ingle will likely be ready to continue terrorizing Triple-A pitching, because there’s no other word to describe what he has been doing to hurlers there.
In 15 games and 54 plate appearances, he was hitting .394 with a .630 on-base percentage and a .788 slugging percentage. Those are video game numbers, but the sample is very small, so they have to be taken with a grain of salt.
He has hit four home runs in those 15 games and driven in 16 runs. His 266 wRC+ is almost impossible to believe, as is his 37 percent walk rate. That kind of production is huge for a catcher.
He is the fifth-best prospect in the Guardians organization for a reason, and the step forward he is taking this year isn’t entirely unexpected.
Granted, hitting in the majors is not the same as doing it in Triple-A, but one has to believe Ingle’s chance with the Guardians is coming soon. He will need to get healthy first, though, so Friday’s developments were worthy of celebration.
