The Cleveland Guardians have to make some moves in the offseason.
This team shouldn’t have made it as far as they made it this season, but that doesn’t mean they need to rest on their laurels.
At least, that’s how team analyst Chris McNeil feels.
Talking on the “BIGPLAY Cleveland Show,” McNeil called out the front office and urged them to make the big-name signings this team needs:
“Don’t let them off the hook. We need to get free agents in here. We put butts in those stands, people are passionate about it, it’s time for ownership to reward that passion with some great free agent signings this offseason,” McNeil said.

The Guardians had no offense for most of the season.
Not doing anything at the trade deadline actually made sense at the time.
Given the team’s record, it may have even made more sense to throw in the towel and move some veterans, but staying put actually showed some confidence in that group.
Now, they can’t take the same approach.
The front office’s latest comments make it sound like they hope that the young players will be the reinforcements they need.
And while it’s clearly a positive thing that they want to give the young stars a chance to prove their worth and grow through their mistakes, that’s simply not enough at this point.
Of course, Chase DeLauter, George Valera, and C.J. Kayfus all have the potential to be the hard-hitting sluggers this team needed all year long, but banking all their hopes on young players is a disservice to this group.
Jose Ramirez is still in his prime, and if this team wants to make the most of his talents, they have to give him the supporting cast he needs.
