The Cleveland Guardians desperately need to do something to salvage their season.
Trading for a big-name player doesn’t seem to be in the plans right now, so they might have to find reinforcements from within the organization.
Minor-league standouts Chase DeLauter and C.J. Kayfus are the likeliest candidates, given that they each hit left-handed and have dominated at Triple-A.
However, that would mean someone has to be demoted, as there are only so many roster spots.
With that in mind, Bernie Pleskoff of Forbes named Kyle Manzardo as the player the Guardians should consider sending down.
“Manzardo, 25, is a left-handed hitting first baseman/designated hitter. He needs work on his defense at first base. He is fooled mightily at the plate by savvy pitchers. While Manzardo has power, he hasn’t refined his hitting mechanics to the point of consistently offering solid plate appearances. But if the Guardians want to promote another left-handed hitter in either DeLauter or Kayfus, it might be wise to send Manzardo to Triple-A Columbus for more seasoning,” Pleskoff wrote.
Manzardo has shown glimpses of great play, and he’s worth holding onto.
But if the Guardians want to add firepower to their outfield and bring in a promising left-handed hitter, this should be an easy decision.
Kayfus has been on a roll all season, and it looks like he’s done all that he can at Columbus.
DeLauter has always been penciled in as a potential superstar, although injuries have often gotten in his way.
Manzardo could still have a big role on the team in the future, but he might be a little too raw to be a part of their big-league roster at this point in his development.
