Despite his modest offensive numbers in 2024, the Cleveland Guardians believe Bo Naylor is their catcher of the future.
At least for the foreseeable future, that is.
But baseball has a way of reminding MLB organizations that it never hurts to have depth at every position.
Injuries and slumps happen every year, and being prepared for this is what separates the good from the truly great.
That’s why paying attention to Logun Clark’s development is so important, as is helping him become the best version of himself.
He has been taking some hacks at the Guardians complex in Goodyear, hoping to reach the start of the minor league season in the form of his life.
“Cleveland #Guardians 21yr old (C) prospect Logun Clark putting in work out at the organizations Goodyear Development Complex. Clark posted an impressive 128 wRC+ with a .372 OBP to go along with 5 HR’s and 24 RBI’s over 32 games between the Arizona Complex League and (Low-A) Lynchburg in 2024,” Guardians Prospective posted on X.

As you can see, Clark has something that catchers rarely boast at the highest level: the ability to walk.
That should give him a nice foundation for the future, a solid floor as a hitter if you will.
Granted, he strikes out a lot and that will need to be corrected if he is going to have some sort of major league career, but he ran a walk percentage over 10 in his two minor league stops last year.
He had a 142 wRC+ in 20 games at Single-A, which is nothing short of amazing even though the sample was not really large.
In 32 games between the Complex League and Single-A, Clark also hit five homers, so the power is there to make an impact.
If he can lower his sky-high 31 percent strikeout rate this year, Clark has a chance to sneak into the Guardians’ top prospects.
Since he is just 21, he still has time on his side.
